What's in my camera bag ? - 2026

Hi dear followers !

Let's start this version 2.0 of my website with some gear talk !

People often asks me what my favorite photo equipement is and what I usually have in my camera bag...

Difficult question because I do a lot of different types of photography and I actually have different kind of bags !

I use a small bag with more compact cameras and lenses when I only go somewhere on travel or simply visiting a place. I don't want to carry heavy gear when I don't go somewhere with the purpose of taking amazing pictures, so usually I take only one versatile zoom lens and some compact prime lenses.

Since 2016 I'm into the Sony alpha system and the lens selection is huge !

My small bag...

For my lighweight kit I have the Sony A7C II and the A7C R when more resolution is needed.

Usually I pair those with my Tamron 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III VXD lens with two prime lenses, the Sigma 35mm f/2 DG DN C and the Sigma 17mm f/4 DG DN C which provides me with good image quality for pretty much any subject whitout being too bulky or heavy.

If I go somewhere on purpose to photograph something and wanting the best possible images, I carry a medium size bag with my Sony A7RV equiped with a battery grip plus a second body as a B camera.

In these situations I take bigger lenses with me, because the goal is "Image Quality" first and depending on the subject I prioritize bigger and faster prime lenses !

For cityscapes and landscapes or sometimes for street photography, I use zoom lenses too...

My favorite trifecta of zooms for the Sony E-mount is composed by the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art, the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art MkII and the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM2 OSS !

These lenses always allow me to capture amazing images even in low light but most of the times I also carry some prime lenses with me if the pictures are taken at night.

For night shots I usually fill my bag with the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art, the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (or the 35mm) and the Sigma 135mm f/1.4 DG Art (previously it was the 105mm).

Most of the time I can't decide if my favorite focal lenght is 50 or 35mm as I love both depending on the subject... But Since I own the Sigma 20mm f/1.4, that focal lenght has become one of my favorite... Wide enough but not too much, pretty much zero distortion, very close focus capabilities and tons of sharpenes even wide open ! That lens is stellar !!!

I also love compression very much in my images... So 85, 105 and 135mm are also focal lenghts I really like !

Then comes the bigger bag !

When I carry a beast of a lens like the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5-6.3 G OSS, I usually have a second camera with a shorter lens in my bag too, so I need a bigger one !

Usually I take that lens with me when I go out for wildlife or aviation photography which is pretty rare these days... The camera bag usually contains two cameras, the 200-600mm, the 70-200mm f/2.8 and a general zoom like the 24-70mm f/2.8 or even the 25-200mm !

Then comes the "Portrait Photoshoot" scenario...

In that case I usually take the medium or biggest bag with different prime lenses, the flash system, the lighting kit with softbox and stand and some other accessories, which puts the thing in a complete other league... Sometimes I would want to have a Sherpa !

That's why answering to the question "What's in my camera bag" is very hard ! It depends on what the subject or the situation is but at the end the only important thing is having the right lenses with me, allowing me to grab the best possible image as I have imagined it before even leaving my home !

Choose your favorite focal lenght, find the right lens and enjoy taking pictures, that's all matters !

See you soon with a lot of new pictures and have a great start of the Year 2026 !

R.
